About This Art
Diamojism is an original art form in which iconic works from art history are reconstructed entirely from emoji—thousands of individually selected diamond-shaped tiles, chosen for color, edge and form.
The light falls from the left, outside the frame. The pearl catches it and holds it, the brightest point in the work. The girl is built entirely from emoji, and the dark ground is left as Vermeer set it, so she emerges from shadow as a figure of light against nothing. The finest tiles fell on the eyes, the mouth, and the pearl, the three points rendered at the highest resolution in the work. Together they form a triangle that carries the viewer's eye across her face. The lips, selected for tone alone, produced kiss marks, hearts and a broken heart—arriving unexpectedly with meaning.
She still turns. She still holds the light.
