About This Art
Diamojism is an original art form in which iconic works from art history are reconstructed from emoji—thousands of individually selected diamond-shaped tiles, chosen for color, edge and form.
Stand back and it is Hopper's diner at night, one lit room in a dark city. Step closer and the light comes apart into emoji. This piece follows one rule. Where the diner is lit, the image is built from emoji. Where the night holds, Hopper's own painting shows through.
The emoji are not laid over the picture—they are the light inside it, the glow on the counter, the great curved window, the four figures, the pool of light on the sidewalk. Every tile was chosen by color and tone alone. The woman's red dress came back as hearts. The dark counter filled with black hearts where the light runs thin. Across the shadowed interior the palette found the night sky it came from, and set new moons, crescents and a full moon into the dark.
Four people sit close and touch no one. The only hearts in the room are the ones the light made.
